My Writing

I have been a features writer for UK Handmade since 2008.

"UK Handmade is a design-led online magazine committed to showcasing and promoting the best creative talent the UK has to offer. The term 'handmade' is an indicator of quality, care and professionalism that is second to none and something that UK Handmade wishes to encourage and celebrate."

All the past issues of the UK Handmade magazine are available to read online

The following represent a selection of the most recent articles I have written for UK Handmade.

Summer 2013: Bristol Scrapstore

A feature championing the network of Scraptores that run across UK. They encourage children to use their imaginations and create something with their hands. Each scrapstore is a treasure trove of clean scrap waste materials donated by business to be reused by local children in whatever way their creative urge takes them. The range of materials in any of the scrapstore changes each day and could include card, paper, textiles, paint, cork, wool, cardboard tubes, netting, gauze and many other things.

My super-talented niece took all the photos featured in this article.

Summer 2013: Vintage Vacations

A feature about a unique holiday destination. Vintage Vacations is the UK’s original Airstream caravan holidays and they also offer other unusual accommodation on the beautiful Isle of Wight.

Summer 2014: Story of Mum

A feature about the Story of Mum online community. A place to let go of Bad Mummy guilt, boost your confidence, take a gloss-free look at motherhood, and carve out vital time for Mums. Story of mum is an interactive journey - a chance for mums to be creative, to share their stories and to explore what it means to be a Mother.

Autumn 2014: Fig Artists Co-operative

Fig is a truly original shop on the Gloucester Road in Bristol. It is full of beautiful, hand-made gifts and cards. Fig opened in June 2009 when six diverse and talented craftswomen came together to open a co-operative shop and workplace. I interviewed two of the co-operative members to find out more about them.

Winter 2014: Louise Wilkinson

Louise Wilkinson creates beautiful, decorative and charming illustrations inspired by growing up in the Yorkshire countryside and her love of animals and the natural world.

Autumn 2015: Hatchet and Bear

Hatchet and Bear are Known for working with storm damaged trees, foraged wood and broken and discarded materials, EJ uses simple tools and traditional methods.
